Today I begin my blog. It has been a long time coming, but I think it’s time I begin to write my musings in one place rather than inundating my friends with emails about others’ blogs. The step into the blogosphere is a scary one, but one that hopefully will be positive for me, as well as for those who read it.
The title of my blog, “A Deconstructed Christian”, comes from Michael Frost, an Australian evangelist whose message I heard on CD and who started me on my journey. He speaks of deconstructing Christianity, and vandalising our pictures of Jesus to find the real Jesus who walked this earth. I am in the process of deconstructing my own Christianity after leaving mainstream denominational church and joining a fellowship of believers who are walking this journey with me.
Luckily with all the deconstructing going on there is reconstruction that take its place. So in place of the old me there is a new me being built up. A more authentic me – the person I probably always was underneath the fixings of churchiness. Those who have been on this journey too will understand. Those who haven’t, please bear with me. My thoughts might sound abstract, possibly weird, maybe even heretical, but I can promise that they reflect the real me and my real thoughts without other stuff piled on top ‘just because it sounds nice’.
To all those who have been part of my journey so far, thank you. You are appreciated. Your input into my life is precious. And to all those bloggers out there who have bared their souls and consequently inspired me to do this, thank you too. I appreciate your honesty more than I can say.
